  14. <p>     DIED. Ralph Lazo, 67, a non-Japanese American voluntarily
  15. interned in a World War II relocation camp; of liver cancer; in
  16. Los Angeles. When the internment of people of Japanese ancestry
  17. began in California in 1942, Lazo, who was of Mexican and Irish
  18. descent, decided to go with his Japanese-American friends to the
  19. Manzanar Relocation Center. He later explained, "These people
  20. hadn't done anything that I hadn't done except to go to Japanese
  21. language school." Lazo was subsequently drafted by the Army and
  22. was awarded a Bronze Star for heroism in combat.
